Fantasy Drafting (Part 1)

OK here is the first real post of my new blog, Fantasy Football Today.  So today and over the next few days, we will be talking about drafting strategies and how drafting can make or break a team.  So in the early rounds, some people think that getting that great quarterback or great receiver will make there team great.  Well it won't.  The key to good early drafting is running backs.  In most leagues, the roster spots include two running backs and a flex position which can either be taken up by a running back, a wide receiver, or in some leagues a tight end.  In the first two rounds, you need to draft running backs.  The reason for this is because there are few great running backs in the NFL.  In most leagues, running stats are the biggest impact in the points system (or stat average in rotissary leagues).  Since passing stats are not much of an impact in points and also there are many good quarterbacks in the league, you don't need to get a great quarterback so quickly.  The same thing goes for receivers.  There are probably more receivers than any other position in the NFL.  Since receiving stats are not the biggest impact in scoring either, you don't need to jump at Larry Fitzgerald with the fifth overall pick in the draft.  Tomorrow, I will cover mid round drafting strategies and what to do in those particular situations.  As a side note, I am starting an online radio show on www.blogtalkradio.com.  More details will be available later.
